Afterworld Official Updates and Dev Diaries
Use a dated index of first-party Afterworld announcements, developer diaries, videos, and pages affected by newly confirmed information.
This page is a dated index of first-party Afterworld information. It helps readers see which official material controls the wiki’s evergreen guides and where volatile facts, especially release status, need to be rechecked.
August 25, 2026: announcement and trailer
Paradox Interactive announced Afterworld as a new grand strategy game from Paradox Development Studio, set in a post-apocalyptic North America. The press release introduced the path from a small survivor group to a continent-spanning empire and named Origins, survival resources, procedural variation, discovery-driven Ideas, settlements, logistics, laws, diplomacy, conflict, and Ancients.
The official announcement trailer was published the same day on the Afterworld YouTube channel. It establishes the setting and themes of survival, rediscovery, alliances, faith, conflict, and ancient powers. The trailer is embedded on What Is Afterworld? through the approved privacy-enhanced media contract.
August 25–26, 2026: Developer Diary #1
The first diary, Afterworld, the Vision, explains the design goals behind the project. It describes a semi-procedural post-apocalyptic North America, adaptation and rediscovery as design pillars, society-building during the campaign, a gradual introduction to grand strategy, and a preference for simulation grounded in tangible things.
The Paradox forum index timestamps the post on August 25, while localized Steam Community presentation shows August 26. This is treated as a timezone/display difference rather than two separate updates.
The diary supplies context for the game-loop and Origins guides. It does not provide a complete mechanics reference.
September 1, 2026: Developer Diary #2
The second diary, The Afterworld, focuses on the setting and the system used to create different campaign histories. It explains that a handcrafted map of pre-Fall locations and terrain is altered by a simulated semi-random apocalypse.
The diary also describes the return of organized societies and religion, examples of environmental scars and regional disasters, the transition from wandering bands to empires, and distant immortal powers beginning to act. These details support the world map, laws and society, and Ancients guides.
The post says the next diary is planned for September 16. That is a forward-looking schedule statement, not a published update or a guaranteed content description.
September 4, 2026: official developer interview
The official Afterworld channel published What is Afterworld?, a short interview with Game Director Dan Lind. It restates the progression from survival to tribe-building and empire, confirms competitive and cooperative multiplayer, discusses intended modding support, and describes Ancients as major obstacles that can be opposed from within or outside.
The interview does not announce a release date. Its call to action remains wishlisting the game and reading developer diaries. The approved video appears on the how-it-plays guide.
Current first-party state

- Steam still lists the release date as To be announced and the game as not yet released.
- The official forum index contains Developer Diary #1 and Developer Diary #2.
- No later developer diary was visible on the official forum index.
- The public Explore the Map page remains available as a Turns Expedition experience.
- The two approved official YouTube videos remain available with official English captions.
For purchasing and compatibility decisions, use the release-status guide and follow its freshness warning.
Update and evidence rule
New first-party information should update both this index and every affected evergreen guide. If official sources differ, record the date, source, and scope of the disagreement rather than silently replacing one claim. Community discussion can identify questions, but it does not establish game facts.
This page does not create a separate news archive, does not publish P1 routes, and does not summarize rumors, leaks, or competitor content.
